I always do portraits during the 1-2 hours before sunset, as I find it’s the best time for lighting! These times vary depending on the time of year, and you’ll be given a specific time when you request a booking.
Location is flexible! I recommend choosing a location that is significant to you, that has potential for different shots, or that you feel very comfortable in. If you're unsure, I always have a few recommendations. (For UVA Graduation photos, the Lawn is always a great default.)
You can bring whatever you'd like! For graduation portraits, I take a variety of shots; we'll get you with your cap and gown, just with your cap, and without either. Feel free to bring any props; trust me I’ve seen it all, from Dance Team poms and homemade signs to (yes I’m serious) a bag of carrots.
Feel free to bring a second outfit; just be aware that it will be cutting into your shooting time! In the past I’ve had more success with just one outfit for portrait session.
You will receive all fully edited photos via an online gallery! The amount of photos you receive will depend upon the package you select.
I try to make turn-around time very quick, so unless it is an exam season, you should get them within a week or two. I post some favorites to my Instagram or Facebook Page as I edit so you may get a sneak peek of your photos within a few days.
I love when your images are shared with friends and family! Feel free to send photos, print them out, or post them on social media.
I do ask that the images are not edited or altered, and that there is a link for photo credit to my website or Facebook page.
Why you might ask? I encourage you to read this wedding photographer’s post about crediting your photographer!
Shooting Time + Editing Time (1-6 Hours) + Industry Standard Editing Software + Camera Equipment + 4 years of experience.
Unlike other photographers, I don’t create presets and use them on all my photos like a filter. I individually edit each photo to make sure each image is as perfect as it can be and so that you always look your best!
I have been shooting portraits at the University of Virginia for 4 years and know the best locations and the timing of lighting at each location like the back of my hand. Intimate knowledge of where and when to shoot is my secret weapon and what sets me apart from other photographers!
I hate being in front of the camera and know how awkward it can feel when you don’t know what to do with your hands. I believe a good photographer knows how to pose clients so that they feel comfortable and never look rigid!
